Can you beat The Arden Tontine?

Set within 10,000 acres of Packington Estate our two 18 hole courses are woven through some of Warwickshire’s prettiest parkland, deer and wildlife roam freely across the fairways but this merely forces upon the player a degree of patience that can only benefit his or her game.

 The Aylesford Course is a 69 par resort course which is the shorter of the two courses at 6525 yards but still with an excellent range of 3 & 4 par holes it offers an ample challenge for all standards and has a fantastic par 5 to finish.

 The more challenging Championship Arden Course at 7213 yards really is just something else, and it certainly has to be experienced to soak up and feel the enjoyment that a course of this standard has to offer.

Just to pin point a couple of holes on the Championship Arden course, the 9^th hole is a daunting 476 yards uphill challenge with trees to the left and right, just perfect to swallow a sliced wayward ball off the tee. If you thought you had made a comprehensive start on the first 8 holes, the 9^th hole can certainly plummet any hopes of clear run down to earth.

 Not forgetting the signature hole on the Arden course, the 211 yard par 3, 18^th hole called the ‘Tontine’ which still remains one of the most daunting holes for many golfers.

With the hotel as a backdrop and its raised tees, you are unable to clear your mind of the deep abyss which leads to a lake formed from a water-filled quarry.

Depending on weather conditions it can be anything from a 5-iron to a 3-wood that is required to drive a ball to the well guarded sloping green from front to back on this demanding finishing hole.

2011 Open Champion and two time winner of the British Masters at the Forest of Arden, Darren Clarke once said of the hole, “One of the only courses on the European Tour that finishes with a par 3, and what a par 3 it is. At over 200 yards, it can play up to a 2 iron”
